More children will be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) this year than with AIDS, diabetes, and cancer combined. While current research tells us optimal change can be made when autism intervention begins before the age of 3 years, the average age of diagnosis across the US is still 4 to 5 years of age. We at TTAN are determined to raise awareness and make early identification and appropriate intervention possible for all families.
With early intervention we can diminish the effects of autism; without access to early intervention we are condemning these children to more sever effects of autism. At this time in Texas, autism intervention for children under three years of age is limited, extremely costly and accessible mostly to the privileged few.
